Solar Eclipse

There's going to be an eclipse of the sun today. I love eclipses of all kinds. They're freakin' cool. Unfortunatley, I don't live in an area that will be able to view any part of it.

Bah! The good news, however, is that according to my horoscope, things in my life are going to get better after the eclipse and after Mercury (my ruling planet that has been retrograde) turns direct, all of which is supposed to happen after April 12. Since that is approximately when my new job is supposed to start, things are looking up!

Good Luck Scott

Well, I guess it's a good thing that I'm going to be employed soon and not able to listen to the Sports Zoo on 850 KOA anymore because Scott Hastings is going to be leaving. His last broadcast is tomorrow. One of the reasons I liked the Zoo was because of Scott's humor. Dave is so dang stiff. Oh, well. I wish Scott the best and can certainly understand wanting to spend more time with your family. He's spread himself rather thin this year between radio, coaching, Broncos and Nuggets.

I suppose it all depends on who the replacement is, but I doubt I'll be listening much after Scott leaves. Especially if it is that CJ Johnson guy that filled in for Dave during football season. Ugh. I wonder if they're trying to get the format back to more sports.

The radio stations have totally jacked me. I really don't listen much anymore, anyway. They keep moving my favorite shows to time slots when I don't or can't listen. At least Coast to Coast is still on KHOW overnight and Rick Barber is still on KOA.

Are They Nuts?

What the hell is wrong with the people in Congress? It's bad enough that we have this stupid, outdated system of Daylight Saving Time, but why in hell would we extend it?
Lawmakers crafting energy legislation approved an amendment Wednesday to extend daylight-saving time by two months, having it start on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday in November.

"Extending daylight-saving time makes sense, especially with skyrocketing energy costs," said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan, who along with Rep. Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts, co-sponsored the measure.

The amendment was approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee that is putting together major parts of energy legislation likely to come up for a vote in the full House in the coming weeks.

"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use," said Markey, who cited Transportation Department estimates that showed the two-month extension would save the equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil a day.

The country uses about 20 million barrels of oil a day.

This is so stupid. Screwing with time only screws with people. We have more accidents, we get sick, we are less productive as we acclimate to time changes. I don't see how this will result in less energy use. We are becoming more and more of a 24-hour society. We have computers on in our home 24 hours a day. Anybody who has been on the road at 4 am knows that there are people up and about. There is a set amount of daylight at any given time of the year. There is no way they can legislate more daylight. If people want to utilize the existing daylight better, then isn't that their responsibility?

Let's just dump Daylight Saving Time altogether and stop this stupidity. Isn't there more important things like illegal aliens, wasteful government spending, etc. that congress should be worrying about?

Pizza Driving and I Got A Job!

While viewing my counter stats, I found a site linking to me called East Colfax. I'm not quite sure what the point of that site is (except the photolog) but there was a link there to Streets of Pizza by Pizzaman. I love reading sites of pizza drivers. It's comforting to know that I wasn't the only one that put up with all sorts of shit doing that job. He linked to one of my favorite sites ever, Tip the Pizza Guy.com. I'm tempted to get one of those stickers to put on my new car, when I get it that is. That led me on a path of following other driver blogs. I'll have to compile a list someday. Interesting reads.

Well, I'm over $300 short of paying my bills this month. Between the higher cost of gas and making $280 less this March than I made last March for making dough (not to mention that I was also making cash delivering pizzas--I don't think buttmunch had cut my hours yet), I'm slightly screwed. We've got several theories at work as to why sales are sucking so bad. First, our advertising sucks (what little there is of it). Second, our owner raised the prices to be in line with all the major chains. Since our product (and service) isn't as good, people would rather order from them. Third, our carry-out business increased because why pay more and have to wait more when you can get it waaaay cheaper by coming in. Fourth, our area is becoming increasing non-English speaking and our manager refuses to hire anybody that speaks Spanish. Fifth, there is no hockey.

Good news is the screen printers finally called me back and I should be starting there full time in the next couple of weeks. Since I'll be more or less doubling my income (I can't quit pizza just yet), I'll be able to get my bills caught up and get the things I need to start my own business. And a newer car...I really need one of those.

Just Another Meme

I've got a lot of stuff brewing in my brain, but nothing I want to share here. I saw this meme at Snappy Hour and Glovebox Sandwiches recently, so that's all for today:
